![]() ![]() The book is set in the fictional town of Fairfold, which is like a bridge between humans and the supernatural. What shines in The Darkest Part of the Forest is its worldbuilding and plot, which are very unique, something Holly Black excels in. The book doesn't need tropes or romance to carry the story. Romance doesn't overpower the plot it merely enhances it, unlike many other YA novels, and it isn't incredibly explicit either. The Darkest Part of the Forest is not full of your typical, cliche, YA tropes (which is what often draws readers in), which makes it incredibly refreshing. ![]() I actually read The Darkest Part of the Forest when I was rather young, and it served as a bridge between middle-grade and YA, even though it discussed very mature topics. I have always been a fan of Holly Black and stories with faeries or the Fae (which actually came from this book), and this novel really shows her ability to weave a lyrical and lush tale. Needless to say, The Darkest Part of the Forest is one of my favourite books. ![]()
